Shout to the Lord on American Idol

Last night was "Idol gives back" night on American Idol.....yes, some of us watch American Idol religiously week after week....anyhow, as many of you might be, I was pleasantly surprised that the show closed with a rendition of Darlene Zschech's "Shout to the Lord"...all the idol contestants were dressed in white, and together with the choir did a beautiful performance of the song....however, I noticed the name of Jesus was carefully removed from the song....but still, it was nice to see that a gospel song was sung boldly with millions of people watching all over the world....it brought tears to my eyes I tell you....
There is a fellow blogger who has uploaded a video of the performance on his/her blog, and I'm putting the link to it below for those who missed the show last night....Mariah Carey also did a beautiful rendition of "Fly Like a Bird"...

Enjoy!

What's the point of sing this song if they won't even acknowledge Jesus, the Person about whom the song was written...Sorry Adetayo I don't share your enthusiasm at all......

I happen to agree with John here. And what's the point of the white attire anyway? To look angelic or what?

What do we expect from them though? It is American IDOL isn't it......and we're not to worship any idol right??

What I don't get is why Christians should be excited about non-Christians singing Christian songs.....or doing anything with the appearance of Christianity in it.

I don't know that anyone has been saved yet.....or that any of the kids that "idolize" the Idol has become more Godly...as a result of that song....

As far as I am concerned...a churchy world is as no good as a worldly church...

Adetayo.....I hope you understand that this is not a knock on you at all.....I probably may have left that impression with the tone of my comments....It's just that I get....rankled...as a friend would say...with this sort of....half cooked....Godliness...

Why were we so fast to notice that Jesus was not put in the song? They sang about the SHEPHERD, MY COMFORT,THE LORD,THE KING, THE SAVIOUR and also acknowledged His mighty works and that nothing compares to the promise they have in Him.
Life is better when we pick up the 'good' in people, even if it is just a tiny dot rather than trying to pick up the 'faults' no matter how many. That is the beauty of love!!! Remember we were once there, at least I know I was once there- There was actually a time in my life I was ashamed to acknowledge Jesus in public, Jesus changed that.
And my guess is that because it was on national television in a country like America where you have rules that have seperated church and state, people are not allowed to come on national television to mention our saviour-Jesus. The singers probably wanted to but were not allowed to. Lets spend more time praying for America to bring God back where He belongs. And lets spend less time bothering about whether they put Jesus in or out of the song.Once He is back to His throne in America, He'll be in every song and every conversation.
Final words-I can preach Jesus more by my actions than I can speaking about Him.
The song was nice, I actually didn't watch it till I heard all the comments on the blog and boy, did I enjoy the song.

Jewel...I hear you...but the issue here is not so much about the singers or the song...The question is why take out the Name of Jesus???

And the reason is simple.....it is not politically correct to do so..that's why...or else they will lose their TV Rating and of course their bottomline..$$$$$$

They sang about the SHEPHERD, MY COMFORT,THE LORD,THE KING, THE SAVIOUR.....really???

Who is being referred to here....it will be wrong to assume that it is JESUS....because they might as well be referring to their girlfriend or boyfriend for all you know.....

We cannot win the world back to Christ by compromises...the only way is by showing the world, by what we do and say, that we are different...

Isn't that why the first christians were labelled as those "who have turned the world upside down"? They were different....in everything they did they challenged the system, prevailing culture and way of doing things. Until we did so...there is no bringing God back where He belongs...

This sounds like the old argument about the length of Aaron's beards...or the one on.....whether the fly is made holy by dropping into holy water or the holy water is made unholy by the fly dropping in it....

There are more important things to expend our energy on than this....

Sorry i am comenting rather late on this issue. I kind of agree with all the divergent views and if we look at it objectively, all contributors have a point. However i would like to comment on Jewel's last words" i can preach Jesus more by my actions than i can speaking about Him".
I had similar idealogy, believing my life style will witness effectively without my active evangelizing,i have since found this to be untrue and a lie of the enemy to make us complacent.I also found no biblical basis for it. The bible enjoins us to go into the whole wide world and preach the gospel, it didnt say we should act out the gospel. However perfect our lifestyle is, it can never take the place of verbalizing the gospel. People will acknowledge a good life style and may try to emulate, occasionally they may ask about why we act the way we do, but lets not let that be a deterrent to actively speaking out for Jesus anywhere and everywhere.

Thank you Anonymous for the useful comments.

But I beg to disagree. It does not matter how much words we speak....how eloquent we preach........if the life we live does not match the word we speak.....we would be like a sounding cymbal......a shouting gong....

Our life is our message.....it is much more powerful.....than mere words.......
